The successful candidate will have significant administrative experience with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and will provide artistic and academic vision and leadership for a dynamic music department.


Provide a significant record of research and scholarship; teaching, publications, and/or creative activity sufficient to meet the criteria for tenure at the rank of full professor at UTSA.


Evidence of successful academic administrative experience.


A significant national scholarly or creative profile is necessary to merit appointment to the Blumberg Professorship in Music.

Description of Job Duties

The Department of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications for the position of Department Chair, at the rank of Full Professorship in Music.


The chair is expected to teach a minimum of one course per semester in the area of his/her expertise and is responsible for the overall administration of the department, including financial planning and development, budget management, mentoring of faculty, supervision of clerical and technical staff, and representing the department within the university, the College of Liberal and Fine Arts, and the community.

Tenure is contingent on Board of Regents approval.
